Gmail to Jira is a powerful add-on that allows you to create Jira issues directly from your Gmail inbox. With AI-powered summaries and one-click creation, you can turn emails into actionable tasks in seconds.

Requirements
- A Google Workspace or Gmail account
- A Jira Cloud account with project access
- Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge browser
📥 Installation
Installing Gmail to Jira takes just a few clicks:
- Visit the Google Workspace Marketplace
- Search for "Gmail to Jira" by InnovaApps
- Click Install and grant the required permissions
- Open Gmail and look for the add-on icon in the right sidebar
Permissions Explained
- Read email messages: Required to extract email content for issue creation
- Connect to external services: Required to communicate with Jira APIs
- Display sidebar: Required to show the add-on interface
🔗 Connecting to Jira
After installation, you'll need to connect your Jira account:
- Click the Gmail to Jira icon in your Gmail sidebar
- Click Connect to Jira
- You'll be redirected to Atlassian's login page
- Sign in and authorize the add-on to access your Jira sites
- Select the Jira site you want to use
Security: We use Atlassian's official OAuth 2.0 flow. Your credentials are never stored by our add-on.
🎫 Creating Issues
Creating a Jira issue from an email is simple:
- Open any email in Gmail
- Click the Gmail to Jira icon in the sidebar
- The AI will automatically analyze the email content
- Review and edit the generated summary if needed
- Select your project and issue type
- Optionally assign to a team member and set priority
- Click Create Issue
Available Fields
- Project: Select from all accessible Jira projects
- Issue Type: Bug, Task, Story, Epic, and custom types
- Summary: Auto-generated or manual title
- Description: AI-generated summary with email context
- Assignee: Assign to any project member
- Priority: Set issue priority level
🤖 AI Features
Gmail to Jira uses Google Gemini AI to help you work smarter:
Automatic Summarization
The AI reads your email and creates a structured summary that captures the key points, making it easy to understand the issue at a glance.
Action Item Extraction
The AI identifies tasks and action items mentioned in the email, so nothing falls through the cracks.
Skip AI Mode
Prefer to write your own descriptions? You can skip AI processing and use basic email content instead by toggling off the AI feature.
Note: You always have full control to review and edit AI-generated content before creating an issue.
🔧 Troubleshooting
Add-on not appearing in Gmail
- Refresh your Gmail tab
- Clear your browser cache
- Ensure the add-on is installed in Google Workspace Marketplace
Cannot connect to Jira
- Check that you have access to at least one Jira Cloud site
- Try disconnecting and reconnecting your Jira account
- Ensure pop-ups are not blocked for the authorization window
AI not generating summaries
- Ensure the email has sufficient text content
- Check your subscription status (AI requires active subscription)
- Try refreshing the add-on panel
